The preview (pre-header) is the second line people see in Gmail and Apple Mail. Use it to finish the thought instead of repeating the subject:

What makes a Cyber Monday subject line work

Lead with the offer or the deadline. On the busiest email day of the year, clarity beats cleverness. "[OFFER] ends tonight" is boring and effective.
Always name the time zone. "Ends at midnight" means four different things to a US customer list. Write "ends 11:59pm ET" or "ends midnight Pacific".
Keep it under about 45 characters so it isn't cut off on phones.
Make the deadline real. If you say the sale ends tonight, end it tonight. Planning a "surprise" extension while telling people it's their last chance is misleading, and the FTC's pricing guidance and CAN-SPAM both care about honest claims.
Skip spammy tricks. ALL CAPS, "RE:" or "FWD:" on a marketing email, and a row of emojis hurt deliverability and trust.
